Happy Tuesday! We just finished a four day weekend, so that's why this 'Weekend Update' is coming to you a day late. We had a pretty full weekend, so there's lots to tell you -- let's get to it!
Friday was a pretty low-key day off because we wanted to take it easy before our race on Saturday. The day included an easy workout (I did my Upper Body Circuit), running some errands, a family walk -- the usual!
We had our pre-race pasta meal for dinner:
Shell pasta, chicken breast, broccoli, corn, and fresh parm!
After dinner the Mr & I rented Anchorman 2 from our RedBox, but it was not good. I'm a fan of the first one, but the sequel just didn't do it for me. Hali thought it was a snoozefest, too:
What a sweet girl :)
Saturday morning, it was time to run! We were registered to run an 8km race that took place along the Rideau Canal here in Ottawa -- check out the beautiful scenery:
It was absolutely perfect weather, and we had a blast! It was a really small race, so it just sort of felt like a fun group run, you know?
My official finish time was 49:20, but my GPS said the course was almost .5 km longer than the 8k it was supposed to be, so I'm not sure how accurate that is... either way, it was a really fun way to spend the morning! The only downside to the race was the start time. There were Triathlons & Duathlons happening earlier in the morning, so our race wasn't scheduled to start until 11:45, which I thought was an awkward start time in terms of eating. I would have liked it to start a bit earlier, you know?
After our race, we headed home to shower, eat some lunch, take Hali for a walk, etc. Once we had all of those out of the way, we could focus on our big Saturday evening plans -- heading to the Nordik Spa!
My birthday was on Sunday, so as part of my gift, the Mr & I went for a relaxing evening at the Nordik Spa. I don't have any photos (phones/cameras aren't allowed in the spa area), but trust me when I say that it was a fantastic evening! We went for the "Thermal Experience", which includes a variety of saunas, outdoor hot/temperate/cold pools, and fireplace huts for relaxing in. It is such a great atmosphere, and a trip there was a wonderful birthday gift!
Sunday was my birthday, and all I wanted was to continue with the relaxation theme! We went to the Farmer's market for a morning stroll, and then came home for lunch:
I had a huge salad with Farmer's Market bread on the side (so good! I just love good bread!). For a treat, we picked up some Macarons at the market:
Aren't they pretty? We bought Mint Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and classic Vanilla.
It was such a gorgeous day, that we couldn't bear to stay inside. So we headed out for a family walk after lunch! Some photos of the beautiful weather:
And some photos of me + my best girl:
It was such a lovely afternoon out in the sunshine!
And of course, what would a birthday be without cake?
A black + white cake from a bakery -- I didn't really feel like making my own birthday cake ;)
Monday was the last day of our long weekend, and I started it off with a run!
Wearing my new race t-shirt, of course! * Sidenote: isn't it great when your race shirt ends up being something that fits well that you'll actually wear? * I ran 5km, although I took a few breaks along the way:
After lunch, we decided to head out to see the last day of Ottawa's Tulip Festival! Here's a few photos of the afternoon:
I can't get over the beautiful weather we had this weekend! Mother Nature must have known it was my birthday ;)
Monday night was a typical getting-ready-to-go-back-to-work evening: laundry, tidying, etc. And of course, dinner:
Veggie burger + gigantic salad. And maybe a piece of cake. Maybe. ;)
- What was the highlight of your weekend?
- Did you have awesome weather like we did?
- What's your favourite kind of cake?
Have a great day, Friends!
